This lamp helped me get through last winter and alleviated my SAD. I ended up leaving the lamp setup and now that it is not winter, I use it as an area light, reading light, or crafting light. I love all the different settings.

I returned the first one not understanding the extra plastic part you need to remove and throw away to assemble. I finally found the instructions and it was easy to assemble and figure out how to get the light the way you want. You barely touch the pole to get it to react. Very EASY to turn on and off. I had a dark corner behind me nothing seems to cover. Now I can read books, draw and do other things with plenty of light! I have two other Ott lights, much older than this and they do not give off as much light. This is all a good height for the chair I sit in and have it to the side and behind my chair. Very happy with this light and how it is designed to help your eyes unlike standard lighting, which is often detrimental.
Decades ago tests were done in several schools where half the lights were left being fluorescent and half replaced with the non flickering, full spectrum Ott lights. The children in those rooms were sick much less often and their learning skills improved. However, the schools naturally did not want to have to buy the more expensive lights.
Mr. Ott discovered this on an assignment for Disney if I remember correctly. He had to do some slow motion photography of flowers growing and the standard lights were killing some of the flowers. He finally came up with his Ott light that helped them grow naturally, so he could photograph them in his studio growing. …. and in the end, they were more beneficial for humans too. Although that was not his intention in creating them at first. I find my eyes tire much less than when I read under standard lights! I recommend them to friends who use them for crafts, reading, cooking and things requiring adequate, healthy light.

Wow I can’t believe I had this ready to return, thought my little Verilux box lamp would work great in the dreary Wyo winters so had it ready to return. Well, I got it all set up out of curiosity and was amazed at how easy that was, and how sophisticated it was. Then my college kid came over to the home (also gets the winter blues) so as any good parent I relinquished it. He raves about it all the time especially it’s simple contemporary lines and so many adjustment options (height, warm/cool, multi planar, bright to very dim). We laughed about the breastfeeding light option, but that’s our world, options for everyone!

Before LED lighting I used full spectrum bright light to make my early morning happier. This Happy lamp has different shades and strengths of light and I can enjoy it in the late afternoon with reddish light, dimmer as it gets late. A great product at a reasonable price. BTW, a good book for light therapy is Depression Cure by therapist/researcher Stephen Ilardi of the Univ. of Kansas.

Great quality and value for money. The light therapy provided improves mood and depressive symptoms. Remote control works well and looks great as a lamp without making it obvious that you are using it for light therapy. Works well as my office lamp for my desk.
Absolutely awesome. Getting another. –
Great product. Just what i wanted!

Pros: Very bright light, enough to really illuminate a room from it’s 5″ lens; a wide variety of light settings for both temp/light color and brightness; the remote works well and is reliable; comes with separate pieces so you can use it as a floor lamp or as a table lamp; the neck is adjustable for any position needed; the light settings remain so don’t need to be reconfigured each time.
Cons: The touch control button on the lamp is very stubborn and unresponsive and requires you to stand there touching it multiple times to turn it on or off, and often will not work at all, so better never lose that remote control!!! Not reliable enough for me to keep next to the bed since it often didn’t work by touch.
I feel it was overpriced a bit, especially considering the touch control rarely works.
The lamp itself is not attractive as it is a long goose neck, it is utilitarian not decorative. When assembled with the additional pieces to be used as a tall/floor lamp, it is top heavy and easily toppled, so I put 2 old ankle weights on the base and that was enough to stabilize it. I have decided to keep it on a table in the corner where it doesn’t show much but illuminates the room and use the remote to control it.
