Insomnia is one of the biggest complaints to GPs, and all too often the treatment is just pharmaceutical – which works some of the time but associated with addiction issues, both physical and psycholological.     What a book!

    Just a scan through the Contents and References shows how exhaustive this research and information is. It made me approach the read with great interest. I’ve had “insomnia” practically my whole life. It’s one thing to be a “night person” but another to have a hard time getting quality sleep.

    First, the book really breaks down insomnia, what it is, who has it, what it means to have or not have good sleep, and what’s related to it (PTSD [stress, for me], etc.). Also, stages of sleep.

    Love that the pitfalls of medications are discussed and natural ways of getting to sleep emphasized. Love the quotes! And on mindset, funny, I’ve just embarked on a study of Stoicism… and especially liked the section on changing mindset.Loved the section(s) on understanding stress and the practical exercises. The research this is based on is exhaustive.

    I found this thorough, very well written (clear and easy to follow), and well-paced in that it was a page-turner for me. Excellent book! Great resource! In fact I really like this doctor. And I was even tempted to read it in bed, lol. THANK YOU, author, for the help provided. I think this is a handy, holistic, effective, and indispensible guide.

    When we get into the downward spiral of insomnia, we often forget to put basic, simple best practices in place. Simple things like making sure to get to bed before midnight, turning off the screens, keeping work out of the bedroom, eating earlier in the evening, doing some simple breathing exercises… Sometimes, having a reality check and realigning current behavior with healthy habits is all that is needed.
