Purchased this mattress for our guest room. To start off – this only a $300 mattress – tremendous value! It’s very comfortable, with some surface softness and firm support below. It’s the guest room, but I did have to take a nap on it once it was fully inflated. I’m a side and back sleeper and it was great in both positions, plus it has enough support that it would suit a stomach sleeper as well.

It has good edge support along the sides, you can sleep right up to the edge and when sitting on the edge, it doesn’t feel like it wants to dump you on the floor. It appears that there is no edge support at the foot of the bed, and you can tell how well the stronger coils along the side edge provide extra support. The support is all from stronger coils, There is no foam along the side – you can feel the coils through the cover ($300 mattress).

The cover is cool to the touch and between the cover, gel foam, and the ventilation in the coils, the mattress does not sleep hot. It helps that although the foam gives a soft feel, the coils provide firm support, so the mattress feels soft, but you don’t sink in very deeply. This makes it easy to change positions and climb out ot the bed as well.

I contacted 3Z (Brooklyn Bedding) about shipping as I needed the mattress before the Amazon expected arrival date. They said that the mattresses are made to order, not stored in a warehouse somewhere, so the manufacturing schedule would determine when it would be available. But, they said they would grab the first mattress off the line and get it shipped to me right away. It arrived more than a week prior to the Amazon expected date. Great customer service! And, the mattress shipped directly from the factory, which is located in Arizona.

It was evident that the mattress was recently manufactured. It expanded to its full height almost immediately and firmed up over the first 24 hours. It had almost no smell when it first came out of the box.

Overall, a great mattress! It’s just as comfortable as our main, much more expensive, mattress. This is our first “bed in a box” mattress, and we couldn’t be happier with the choice.

I chatted with Brooklyn Bedding to figure out a bit more about this mattress, since the details here are pretty scant.

The 8” queen mattress (the one we ordered) contains 840 Ascension X coils, which are 6” high and 16 gauge. The coils on the sides are wound more tightly for increased support (there is no edge support at the head or foot, just the left & right). The 6” coil isn’t super common in BB’s products.

The 10”, 12”, and 14” mattresses use 8” Ascension X coils (also 840 in the queen size), which are also 16 gauge in the center of the mattress, and 14.75 gauge on the sides for edge support. These are used in several other Brooklyn Bedding mattress lines, including the Essential sold on their site.

Per the rep I spoke with, the coils themselves shouldn’t feel firm, nor are they soft; give from the mattress should come from the foam(s) on top of the coils.

It’s widely suggested that Brooklyn Bedding mattresses run softer in practice than on paper, so this “firm” may feel more like a “medium” while another medium may feel soft.

We chose this mattress because 1) Brooklyn Bedding is a reputable brand, 2) the price was right, and 3) it has a 100-night trial period. It replaced a Saatva Classic Soft that was more than 5x the price (thankfully still within the return window) — I’m still amazed it was only $330. BB is a good brand, they even wind their own high-quality coils at their Arizona factory.

It is considered more fitting for back & stomach sleepers due to its firmness, but we got specifically it to use as a base/support layer under our 3” soft Talalay (19 ILD) & 2” medium Dunlop (28 ILD) latex layers. For reference, My partner & I are lightweight side-sleepers (5’7 115lbs & 5’9 140lbs).

After sleeping on it for about a month now, I can confirm it’s a great bed. It does feel less firm than I imagine “firm” to be, but definitely isn’t soft enough for bony people like us to sleep on our sides without a topper.

With the latex on top of it, it’s quite comfortable! It offers support under the latex we were hoping for, i.e. the coils feel steady & firm under the plush layers we added.
It is bouncy (as a mattress with coils should be) but doesn’t transfer motion like a trampoline — we can actually roll over without waking each other up now!
It also works REALLY well with our adjustable base (Lucid L300). Unlike the Saatva, it actually conforms to the shape of the base instead of creating gaps and sticking out at the foot.

It smelled only slightly factory-like out of the box — it wasn’t super noticeable and dissipated pretty quickly. Gel memory foam isn’t exactly known for its durability, but since we’re just using it for the coils, it *should* last us as long as they do.

The only minor issue is that it seems to be slightly shorter (head to foot) than a standard queen, by about 2”. The toppers stick off the end kind of awkwardly and I never know whether to line it up with the bottom of our base or the top. For us, that isn’t a deal-breaker, but it could be for some.

Final note on firmness: ~90% of mattress softness comes from the foam on top, not the coils, and this bed only has 0.75” of quilted foam & 0.75” of gel memory foam on top. Too-soft mattresses cannot be made less soft, but a too-firm mattress allows you to play around with additional foam layers to find what works best (e.g. adding an inch or two of high-density foam on top of the mattress/under the latex should be *chef’s kiss*).

I just received this mattress and wanted to write a review because of how pleasantly surprised I am!! This is not sponsored, I just want to help those trying to find a good mattress because I know how hard it is.

My previous mattress (Allswell) had fiberglass in it that ended up leaking because the mattress developed a hole. The company knew about the issue and just gave me a discount without warning me about the fiberglass inside. So, I spent a REALLY long time researching and looking for a mattress that’s inexpensive but also free of fiberglass (many budget mattress companies use it as a fire retardant). This brand kept coming up as fiberglass-free. However, many people mentioned that Brooklyn Bedding mattresses tend to be on the softer side, and since I have chronic lower back pain, I needed something firmer.

I was really hesitant about ordering this without trying it first, but now I’m so glad I did! I got the 12-inch version, two twin XLs for the adjustable split king bed frame, and I tested it as soon as I unwrapped it and let it expand. IT’S PERFECT! It’s also really cool to the touch, and it’s the ideal balance of soft and firm—it’s hard to explain. It’s soft enough to be comfortable when lying on your side, but at the same time, you don’t sink in to the point where your spine isn’t supported.

For reference, I am 5’8” tall and weigh 175 lbs. I wanted to leave this review because I know how hard it is to find the right mattress, and I personally really appreciate reading other people’s feedback. So, if you’re looking for something firm enough to be supportive but not rock hard, fiberglass-free, reasonably priced, cooling, and compatible with an adjustable bed frame—this is it!
