I chatted with Brooklyn Bedding to figure out a bit more about this mattress, since the details here are pretty scant. The 8” queen mattress (the one we ordered) contains 840 Ascension X coils, which are 6” high and 16 gauge. The coils on the sides are wound more tightly for increased support (there is no edge support at the head or foot, just the left & right). The 6” coil isn’t super common in BB’s products. The 10”, 12”, and 14” mattresses use 8” Ascension X coils (also 840 in the queen size), which are also 16 gauge in the center of the mattress, and 14.75 gauge on the sides for edge support. These are used in several other Brooklyn Bedding mattress lines, including the Essential sold on their site.Per the rep I spoke with, the coils themselves shouldn’t feel firm, nor are they soft; give from the mattress should come from the foam(s) on top of the coils. It’s widely suggested that Brooklyn Bedding mattresses run softer in practice than on paper, so this “firm” may feel more like a “medium” while another medium may feel soft.__We chose this mattress because 1) Brooklyn Bedding is a reputable brand, 2) the price was right, and 3) it has a 100-night trial period. It replaced a Saatva Classic Soft that was more than 5x the price (thankfully still within the return window) — I’m still amazed it was only $330. BB is a good brand, they even wind their own high-quality coils at their Arizona factory. It is considered more fitting for back & stomach sleepers due to its firmness, but we got specifically it to use as a base/support layer under our 3” soft Talalay (19 ILD) & 2” medium Dunlop (28 ILD) latex layers. For reference, My partner & I are lightweight side-sleepers (5’7 115lbs & 5’9 140lbs).After sleeping on it for about a month now, I can confirm it’s a great bed. It does feel less firm than I imagine “firm” to be, but definitely isn’t soft enough for bony people like us to sleep on our sides without a topper. With the latex on top of it, it’s quite comfortable! It offers support under the latex we were hoping for, i.e. the coils feel steady & firm under the plush layers we added. It is bouncy (as a mattress with coils should be) but doesn’t transfer motion like a trampoline — we can actually roll over without waking each other up now!It also works REALLY well with our adjustable base (Lucid L300). Unlike the Saatva, it actually conforms to the shape of the base instead of creating gaps and sticking out at the foot.It smelled only slightly factory-like out of the box — it wasn’t super noticeable and dissipated pretty quickly. Gel memory foam isn’t exactly known for its durability, but since we’re just using it for the coils, it *should* last us as long as they do.The only minor issue is that it seems to be slightly shorter (head to foot) than a standard queen, by about 2”. The toppers stick off the end kind of awkwardly and I never know whether to line it up with the bottom of our base or the top. For us, that isn’t a deal-breaker, but it could be for some.Final note on firmness: ~90% of mattress softness comes from the foam on top, not the coils, and this bed only has 0.75” of quilted foam & 0.75” of gel memory foam on top. Too-soft mattresses cannot be made less soft, but a too-firm mattress allows you to play around with additional foam layers to find what works best (e.g. adding an inch or two of high-density foam on top of the mattress/under the latex should be *chef’s kiss*).

I just received this mattress and wanted to write a review because of how pleasantly surprised I am!! This is not sponsored, I just want to help those trying to find a good mattress because I know how hard it is.My previous mattress (Allswell) had fiberglass in it that ended up leaking because the mattress developed a hole. The company knew about the issue and just gave me a discount without warning me about the fiberglass inside. So, I spent a REALLY long time researching and looking for a mattress that’s inexpensive but also free of fiberglass (many budget mattress companies use it as a fire retardant). This brand kept coming up as fiberglass-free. However, many people mentioned that Brooklyn Bedding mattresses tend to be on the softer side, and since I have chronic lower back pain, I needed something firmer.I was really hesitant about ordering this without trying it first, but now I’m so glad I did! I got the 12-inch version, two twin XLs for the adjustable split king bed frame, and I tested it as soon as I unwrapped it and let it expand. IT’S PERFECT! It’s also really cool to the touch, and it’s the ideal balance of soft and firm—it’s hard to explain. It’s soft enough to be comfortable when lying on your side, but at the same time, you don’t sink in to the point where your spine isn’t supported. For reference, I am 5’8” tall and weigh 175 lbs. I wanted to leave this review because I know how hard it is to find the right mattress, and I personally really appreciate reading other people’s feedback. So, if you’re looking for something firm enough to be supportive but not rock hard, fiberglass-free, reasonably priced, cooling, and compatible with an adjustable bed frame—this is it!

After spending hours reading reviews for an 8 inch mattress for a new trundle bed, we choose this one for a variety of reasons – we read the reviews on Amazon and then went to the company’s website to read their reviews and they were equally as good. We wanted a quality mattress that was comfortable and that did not sink down on the sides when you sit on it as the top portion of the trundle bed has a wooden frame. So many other reviews showed the sides completely sinking when sat on. So very happy with this purchase. The sides do not sink, as promised. It looks to be well made and of a high quality. It is a firm mattress with a plush top making it feel quite comfortable. Only ordered one mattress to be certain this stood up to their description and it did 100%. Ordering a 2nd one for the bottom. Arrived quickly and well packaged. Very happy with our purchase.

This is my second mattress from Brooklyn Bedding, both purchased on Amazon, years apart. What I like best about this company is that you can call or email them, and they are friendly and helpful in choosing your mattress. They give good advice, and unlike many other mattress salespeople, they don’t shame you if you can’t afford an expensive mattress. They also have a website where you can buy direct from them, but the prices in general are much higher there, for reasons unknown.Fed Ex left my box outside, which was bad because this is Florida and it rains almost every day this time of year. I wrestled it onto my porch, into my house, and into my bedroom myself, which I do not recommend. Set up is much more pleasant if you have two people. Like many others commenting here, my shipping box was beat up (what is Fed Ex doing with these boxes?) but the mattress inside was fine. This mattress expanded literally in seconds after the plastic was removed. I left it for the recommended 3-5 hours, and then I slept on it the first night. I love that it was made in Arizona. There was no scary smell.I slept extremely well on this mattress, which made me feel that I should have done this sooner. I concur with many that sitting on the edge isn’t a fully supported experience, but sleeping on it was great. One other great thing is that Amazon Visa is letting me pay for it in 12 installments, no interest. The payment is less than $30 per month. I have friends right now who are paying ten times as much for a new mattress, and I doubt seriously whether they will sleep ten times as well as I did last night.I highly recommend this company. They make a good product at a fantastic price, and they have great communication. Mine doesn’t feel like a $340 mattress at all.

Almost all are feel comfort etc but you never read one for the other use of the bed. Well I can say it was great on her back and on mine as well. On the knees it did not become an issue. The mattress is soft and springy so it helps with the bounce No smells and it can fit with comfort. Rolling around in the bed is now fun again

I originally purchased the 14″ and it was way too soft for me. Quality was top notch, just too soft. I contacted customer service to return it for a refund. They instructed me to donate the mattress and send them a proof of donation. Once I did that they immediately issued the refund. Whole process was very easy. I then purchased the 12″ mattress and its perfect! Still soft, but not nearly as soft as the 14″. I’m glad I they’re an American company, so easy to deal with!

I don’t know why I waited so long to purchase a new mattress. I slept on it the first night and didn’t wake up once!Set up was easy although the mattress is heavy. So be prepared for that. Just cut the plastic off and the mattress pops out. It expands fast.I bought the 14”. Medium firm describes this well. I’ve slept on too soft and too firm mattresses previously – and this is just right.

Replace a set of box spring and mattress than were ,old, rarely used. Purchased a metal platform , this mattress, and a topper slept like a high end mattress! This will not be used daily, but I would guess with daily use it could last over 4 maybe 5 years. No smell , no hard areas , the mattress was vacuum sealed and immediately was 14 inches. Cool sleeping , good support. . Time will tell

Wow, what a value! After doing some research for a memory foam mattress, I learned that heat retention was a consistent problem that has been improved by the hybrid design. I wanted a medium firm mattress that was made in USA, and I wanted to avoid the expensive bigger name brands. Brooklyn Bedding (BB) has a huge production plant in Arizona that makes BB, as well as Helix, Leesa, Bear, Nolan, and Birch. Brooklynbedding.com does not carry the BB Select, and their models are far more expensive than the 14 inch Select hybrid offered on Amazon. However, the Select is made at the same facility in Arizona that I expect use many of the same materials. So how does this mattress feel? It is cool to the touch and has what is described as a medium firm feel. I agree with the description. It is more firm than a medium. Initially, it feels soft when you lay on it, but then you feel the support of the coils. I weigh 195 and sleep mostly on my side and back. I do not sink far into the mattress as others have said, and the mattress produced no off gassing. If you are looking for an affordable, well made mattress produced in America, you may want to consider the BB Select.

The media could not be loaded. I purchased the 12” Twin mattress. I ordered it on September 8, and although it was scheduled to arrive after September 20, I was fortunate to receive it on September 16.I was looking for a mattress under $300 for my child, and after comparing several options, I chose this one because its structure was the closest to that of a high-end mattress. I opted for the 12” thickness, which includes a 3” memory foam layer, and that was the deciding factor for me.I also read in other reviews that each mattress is made to order, which I really appreciate, as it’s not mass-produced. Knowing that it’s made in the U.S. also gave me confidence in its quality. My son loves it, saying it feels very soft and comfortable. If You’re Looking for a Mattress Around $250, This Is the One to Get!
