I bought this light box and also the bigger version (). I kept this one, the Mini, and returned the bigger one (the Max). In general, I like the Max better because it does not get hot, but I was never able to find a good stand for the Max. Finding a stand that would work with the Mini was easier because it’s about the same size and weight as a tablet. All in all, both of these light boxes are excellent and I highly recommend them and light therapy for people with seasonal affective disorder. Using these light boxes has changed my life, I look forward to using them for many years to come. I use the device for 26 minutes each morning on it’s brightest setting. I found 30 minutes to be a bit too long, causing me to have difficulty falling asleep at night.
Pros:
* It works! I experienced relief the first day I used this device. It took about 3 weeks to enjoy the full effect, but I started to feel better immediately. (Once I learned that I could use this enough to find out if it works during the Amazon return window, I said “Sign me up!” It’s expensive but it’s cheaper than drugs or therapy and has fewer side effects and more convenience).
* It’s very bright, it’s not as bright as the Max but it has a decent working distance (25″).
* The lights will last a very long time so I don’t need to replace them
* It’s small size and light weight make it very portable and relatively easy to find a stand that will hold it a the correct height and angle (above eye level at the 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock position relative to where I sit). The stand I like best for it is this:
Hola! Music HM-MTH Microphone Music Stand Tablet / Smartphone Holder Mount
with this:
AmazonBasics Tripod Boom Microphone Stand
At first I thought these two together were too expensive, but after an extensive search I couldn’t find anything cheaper that worked well.
Cons:
* The cord should be longer. The cords for the Max and the Mini are the same length, both of them are too short. Specifically, both cords include a large transformer box and the distance between that box and the device is too short, so the transformer either needs some kind of support under it, or it dangles from the lightbox.
* The transformer has a very bright light on it. It’s useful because the connections on the power cable come loose and the light helps identify when this happens but it means leaving the device plugged in will fill the room with a green glow at night.
I only recently found out that I have seasonal affective disorder. These are the first light boxes I’ve owned. Many years ago my parents suggested that they thought I had seasonal affective disorder but the size and cost of light boxes available at that time meant that I didn’t get one. I’m very grateful that Alaska Northern Lights has developed these excellent products that provide relief that is effective, accessible, and reasonably affordable.

As a resident of the PNW we have a lot of rainy days/cloudy days in the winter, which I love, but my body gets a bit sluggish. After drinking on average 3+ cups of coffee a day I noticed I was still sluggish and feeling blah. I started researching SAD lights and reading reviews and comparative shopping. Alaskan Northern Lights got the highest reviews on multiple sites. I was pleased to see I could find it on Amazon. For me I would rather pay a little more for a better quality light. So I didn’t hesitate to buy it. I bought it during an ice storm that left most of the city without electricity. Lucky for me, this light was more than bright enough to light the room. It doesn’t use a lot of electricity so we plugged it into our portable charging station. The light is about as wide as a book and about as thick as a cell phone. Its small enough to fit in a purse or carry on bag. It’s very light weight. It weighs less than my phone. I have had my light for almost 6 months and I have noticed a difference in my energy level. I have now cut down on my caffeine by half and I’m now only drinking one cup of coffee. I turn it on the lowest setting in the morning while I have breakfast and I have it placed about 1 1/2 to 2 feet away from me. I can almost feel myself waking up as soon as I turn it on. I have also noticed it is easier for my to fall asleep at night. I have been waking up less frequently at night and I think this has helped my overall energy level, being more mentally alert and feeling ready to take on the world. So don’t hesitate, it’s worth it!

I ordered the Aurora Lightpad mini a little late in the fall/winter season for North America (December) so I wasn’t sure what kind of impact it would have on my sleep. Typically one would start earlier around the end of August – September to start working on circadian rhythm. But I’m happy to say that it definitely had a positive impact on my sleep and helped me improve my sleep schedule. And for only 20-30 minutes per day, that’s worth its weight in gold for me. Also, it’s small, compact, has a built-in stand, portable, easy to move from room to room, it’s lightweight and easy to pack in a suitcase. It looks modern and blends in well. The timer is helpful. And you get 3 brightness settings to choose from. I’ll definitely start up in September for this year.
Note – it’s not built to hold a charge so you always have to plug it in somewhere when using it. And there’s zero assembly- it’s all put together, definitely my kind of electronic.

Great for Night Shift Workers!
As a night shift worker, the Aurora LightPad Mini has been a game-changer. It’s compact, easy to use, and helps me stay energized when my schedule flips my body clock. 30 minutes a day makes a big difference, and the adjustable brightness is perfect. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an effective and portable light therapy solution!

The LightPad Mini has been a great purchase for me. On dreary days when I’m not feeling very well, it really disrupts that mood and help me feel more focused and ready to take on the day. It sits unobtrusively at my desk and I use it for about 15 minutes in the mornings. I love its compact size and brightness. It feels like the best product on the market.
If I were to improve anything about this product it would be the placement of the power cord; I’d prefer it to come into the back of the light rather than the side. I would also suggest to the manufacturer to separate the brightness button from the power button as it’s easy to accidentally change the brightness when turning the light on/off.
