7 reviews for Luminette 2 Light Therapy Glasses (Updated 2024) – Wearable Happy Lamp – Natural Relief for Sleep Problems, Seasonal Mood Disorders, and Jet Lag – Portable Daylight Lamp

Light therapy is NOT a placebo science – it’s a well recognised treatment including the NHS, which has several pages on NHS.uk about it.

I’ve had “advanced sleep phase disorder” for several years now, and it has never bothered me up until recently.
This is an extreme form of “Early bird” sleeping where a person begins feeling very sleep early in the evening, even around 6pm, and then often wakes at 2 or 3am in the morning!

I’ve worked around this in the past by moving my night routine to the morning – watching film, shopping for things online, answering emails.
Recently though I’ve needed to be up “late” in the evening for some business. Being awake wasn’t good enough – I needed to be alert and not fighting my eyelids. Sadly coffee did not work for me.

I read on the Wiki page about ways of treating ASPD, and it suggested light therapy to nudge the fast running circadian rhythm back two or three hours.

I was looking on Amazon for light therapy boxes, and soon realised I did not want to be looking at a white light box for an hour while my eyes soaked up the bright rays.

I continued looking and eventually found these glasses – they sit high on the bridge of the nose (which is adjustable), and enabled me to read my kindle, or use my laptop rather than peering at a light box. Don’t get me wrong – it’s tricky to see my book past the light produced by the Luminette 2, but it was possible – NOT something the light boxes enabled me to do.

I’ve had them now for a month – because I’ve read some of these reviews mentioned faults or the device not working as intended I’ve not written my review straight away.

My light glasses are still working perfectly, and I’ve managed to alter my sleep cycle forward by three hours. It’s taken the entire month but I was able to – thanks to these light glasses.

In photo A, you can see the Luminette 2’s protective case, DOUBLE USB power supply (1 can be used for charging your phone), lens cloth and glasses carry string, the guarantee, and instruction book in many languages.

Photo B shows the glasses folded, with the nose rest to the side.

Photo C has the nose rest attached to the glasses, and the glasses open.

In photo D you can see the main areas you need to be familiar with of the Luminette 2 glasses.
-On the far left of the image by the screw hole, is the micro USB slot for charging.
-Next to that further right is the right hand array of 4 FULL SPECTRUM LED’s.
-Then there’s the 3 level adjustable nose rest.
-To its right is the left eyes 4 full spectrum LED’s,
-Finally on the far right of the image is the power/brightness control button.

Photo E shows the glasses on. Of note:
The two arrays of LED’s which number 8 in total are FULL SPECTRUM blue/white light which ensures the photosensitive cells in the back of the eye’s retina are stimulated properly and with maximum efficiency.
Most LED’s produce bands of light colours which “add up” to a kind of whitish light, but not true full spectrum light. Chemically this makes a difference to the receptors in the eye.

The glasses have a diffusing diffraction grating below each LED array – this both diffuses the light emitted by the LED’s and also spreads the light frequency from blue to red which reduces glare making it possible to see past the light produced by the glasses, as well as reduce uncomfortable glare while ensuring the eyes receive the same amount of light energy.

Photo F shows the glasses straight on – showing their strength, of which there is no substitute when working with light therapy.

Charging is easy – you plug them in, and one light array flashes slowly until they’re charged.

To use them you simply press the power button until the lights illuminate at their lowest. Each quick press after this cycles through one of 3 brightness levels. A long press then turns the glasses off.

I’ve found at about 45 minutes per night, they need recharging every 3 days. Though I leave the USB plug by my desk, so when I put them down I routinely plug them back in.

The only negatives I’ve seen are the nose rest is quite loose when you take them off, and benefited from a little blob of bluetac inside.
Also the power button doesn’t “click” when pressed, making it a bit hard to judge just how hard to press it.

I didn’t find the frame fragile at all – the construction is solid plastic with strong hinges held in place by screws.

So far so good – I hope they last many many years to come, and that my review’s been helpful to you.

Several years ago I moved from Florida to Seattle and felt depression for the first time. The winters here are dark layered in dark wrapped in dark, wearing dark sunglasses. If there are any vampires they definitely do not sparkle.

I have purchased four light therapy units, three light boxes and these glasses. For me the glasses have been the most effective. I am the mother of two small children so finding time to sit stationary for 1-2 hours a day is not realistic. While there was an initial interest in them (they giggled and wanted to pull them off my face), they don’t even notice them now and they accept that I wear them sometimes just like if they were regular glasses. I think there would be an adjustment for anyone who is around you during their use initially but eventually they would grow accustomed to it.

I saw a leading therapist in Seattle who has published multiple studies on SAD. His treatment is to add light therapy along with dark therapy at night (for those who have trouble sleeping), and to do so on a strict routine. Sleep has to be at the exact time every night, and he treats insomnia with low dose (300 micrograms) of melatonin.

I also found great help from the book Winter Blues by Rosenthal.

These glasses allow a flexibility that I do not feel is possible with light boxes. I can do dishes, take a bath (carefully), even exercise while wearing them. Here are a few additional notes about them based on other reviews and questions I had before buying them:

    – You cannot see in the dark while wearing them, but as long as there is lamp light available you should be fine.

    – My charging plug did seem a little tricky at first, but after several charges the positioning seems to have corrected itself.

    – They came with a nice case

    – They have fully charged every time and functioned great since I bought them three months ago. Should that change I will update the review

    – The nose piece is removable but I haven’t had problems with it falling out except when my toddler ripped the goggles off my face and threw them down. It reinserted with no issue and no damage

    – They have three light brightness settings. I use the brightest and personally have no issue with it (no halos, headaches, etc.)

    – I use them in the morning and at night and sometimes for a bit in the middle of the day. They have helped set my sleep/wake cycle and have curbed my depression better than any other light therapy so far, possibly because this is the easiest routine for me to stick with in my current circumstances

I think these goggles are worth their price and have helped me greatly during the long, dark, angsty winters that birthed grunge music.

Bought them because my wife says I feel bad when fall arrive.
They come in a very nice case that can hold the included charger and cable.
They seem to last a week on a single charge.
The on-off switch is too close to the hologram, I have small finger so I doubt that big finger will like them.
They seem sturdy, I did not find anything wrong with the connector as some other users seem to have.
My wife says that after a few days she noticed a change in my humour. So I guess they must do the job. My night are better also.
Beware of the restrictions like glaucomea, cataract, etc. check on the Luminette site on the internet just to make sure these are for you.
I save at least 70$ buying them from Amazon.
Shipping was fast as usual with Prime.

I’ve been using these for over three months now, but I wanted to wait that long to write a review to make sure that they work. They definitely do!

I was diagnosed in August by a Sleep Medicine doctor with Advanced Sleep Phase Disorder, meaning that I fall asleep too early (usually while on the couch at about 7:00 or 8:00 at night), but then I wake up at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and can’t fall back asleep. The doctor I saw recommended sitting in front of a 10,000 lux light box each evening for two hours, but that seemed like it would be hard to do since I didn’t want to be locked in place next to a huge box. I researched various options, and came across these. Before purchasing them here on Amazon, I emailed the company about whether or not these would work for me, and this was their response:

“The Luminette is a pair of light therapy glasses with three light intensity :
    – 500 lux : during 45 min
    – 1000 lux : during 30 min
    – 1500 lux : during 20 min
Depending on the intensity chosen, you will not have to expose you for 2 hours but only 20 to 45 min for the same effects as a 10,000 lux light therapy lamp. If you use the Luminette with the recommended timeframe then it will offer you the same effects as the 10,000 lux lamp.”

As mentioned, for the last three months, I wear these every evening at 7:00 for twenty minutes on the 1500 lux setting, and doing so really helps. (I have a daily reminder set on my Apple Watch to help me remember to wear them.) It did take about two or three weeks for them to work (which is how long light therapy can take to work anyways), but now they really do help.

They are pretty comfortable to wear, but do slip down my nose a bit if I’m wearing them without my glasses on underneath. I can read or watch TV with them on, but find that if you’re in a dark room, it can be really hard to see anything around you. In a well-lit room, it’s not a problem to see clearly.

These also come in a nice case that holds the charger, a strap (which I don’t actually use), and a cleaning cloth. I charge mine once a week (every Saturday night), and the charge lasts me all week.

I love how portable these are, and am so glad that I decided to go with this instead of a large lightbox. They’ve really helped me with my sleep!
